LISBON, June 2 – KPMG Portugal SGPS, S.A, announced today the signing for the acquisition of SAFIRA Consultadoria em Informática, S.A. (“SAFIRA”), a leading provider of business process management technology services, as well as the appointment of the 3 SAFIRA shareholders as KPMG Partners in Portugal, after the completion of the transaction by early July. SAFIRA focuses on building innovative enterprise systems leveraging, in particular, IBM BPM and ODM (Business Process management and Operational Decision Management) software for large multi-nationals around the world.
In 2013, SAFIRA reached a turnover of €10.9 million and this year expects to surpass €14 million, 80% from international markets.
The transaction, and SAFIRA’s integration in the Global KPMG BPM Centre of Excellence, is central to KPMG’s strategy of working with clients to understand their issues and provide technology enabled solutions which deliver real business benefit. Business Process Management (‘BPM’) is a holistic approach which promotes business effectiveness, control and efficiency while striving for innovation, flexibility, and integration with technology.
“The arrival of the SAFIRA team enables us to offer end to end services for our clients’ business transformation programmes, from strategy through to implementation” said Sikander Sattar, KPMG Portugal Senior Partner. “The SAFIRA acquisition provides KPMG with a world-class capability in business operations solutions for clients. Together we can help our clients unlock new business opportunities, increase revenue and drive tremendous efficiencies. We are very pleased to welcome SAFIRA’s extremely talented team of professionals to KPMG.”
The pace of change in business today means that there is a real need for technologies which can accelerate business benefits. Over the past two years, KPMG UK’s BPM Centre of Excellence have architected a new patent pending software called BPM-O which SAFIRA have helped to deliver on KPMG’s IBM BPM private cloud platform. BPM-O rapidly manufactures automated processes, empowering our clients to accelerate the delivery of business benefits. Business analysts can now radically transform business processes in iterative steps reducing development effort by more than 75%. KPMG have worked with SAFIRA to help a major UK bank deliver £500m in savings over the last two years leveraging this technology platform. As a result, KPMG was recognised as runner-up in the EMEA Gartner Business Process Management Excellence Awards 2014.
“With our combined skills and experience, KPMG will now become one of the top BPM services providers globally, with the ability to deploy deep subject matter expertise and technology implementation capability to deliver real business outcomes. Together, we are uniquely positioned to deliver business transformation - strategy to solution deployment - to help accelerate our clients’ growth, “said Aidan Brennan, KPMG Global Head of Management Consulting.
With the SAFIRA acquisition, KPMG adds a world-class team of nearly 180 professionals and further strengthens its advisory practice, bringing technology into the heart of business operations to drive greater value for customers. In addition to this investment, KPMG Portugal announced in the last months the appointment of 10 new Partners and the recruitment of more than 60 employees with experience in Audit, Tax and Advisory services. By the end of 2014 , KPMG will recruit over 200 professionals in Portugal (165 of them recent graduates) to meet business opportunities in the national and international market.
During the first years, SAFIRA will continue to exist as an autonomous entity within KPMG, keeping its identity and brand.
"We have about 50 open positions and this number is expected to multiply in the coming months," said Pedro Penedo, SAFIRA’s Partner. "We have been publicly recognized by IBM and by the market as a leader in BPM and ODM . This acquisition by KPMG and the importance that SAFIRA will gain in this organization and in its growth strategy, further enhance our personal and professional growth."
Financial terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.
